Introduction:
The Autumn 2026 anime season has gained one of its most emotionally resonant ending themes yet from one of Japan's most multi-talented artists. On October 15, 2026, Kawaguchi Yurina (川口ゆりな) officially released her 5th digital single, "Hoshiakari" (星灯 / "Starlight") — the ending theme for the highly anticipated new TV anime adaptation of CLAMP's legendary manga, Magic Knight Rayearth (魔法騎士レイアース).
This release marks a significant milestone in Kawaguchi's career: it is her first-ever anime tie-in song, and it arrives as the beloved franchise returns to television after nearly 30 years . The song was written specifically for the anime, and its release coincides with the series' October 7, 2026 premiere on TV Asahi's nationwide "IMAnimation W" block.
The Sound: A Warm Ballad of Starlight and Solitude:
"星灯" is a warm, emotionally rich ballad that captures the grand yet delicate worldview of Magic Knight Rayearth. The song is characterized by its expressive vocal performance, which shifts dynamically throughout the track to mirror the emotional journey of the story.
Why "星灯" Matters:
A Historic Anime Tie-In
This is Kawaguchi Yurina's first-ever anime theme song — a significant milestone in her career . For an artist who has already established herself as a singer, model, and actress, adding "anisong vocalist" to her repertoire opens new doors and introduces her music to a broader audience of anime fans.
The Magic Knight Rayearth Legacy
Magic Knight Rayearth is one of CLAMP's most beloved works, and its return after 30 years is a major event for fans of 90s anime and manga. Kawaguchi's ending theme is part of that revival, and her genuine fandom for the original work gives her performance an authenticity that resonates with longtime fans and newcomers alike.
The Symbolic Haircut
The decision to cut her 13-year-long hair on camera for the MV is a bold and deeply personal statement. It represents a break from the past and a commitment to the future — a theme that aligns perfectly with Magic Knight Rayearth, where the protagonists must leave their old lives behind to become Magic Knights . It is a visual metaphor for Kawaguchi's own artistic rebirth as she enters "Chapter 2" of her career.
The Kajiura Connection
The involvement of Yuki Kajiura as one of the anime's composers adds another layer of significance to the project. Kajiura is one of the most acclaimed composers in anime history, known for her work on Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Fate/Zero, and Sword Art Online. Her presence on the Magic Knight Rayearth soundtrack ensures that the musical landscape of the anime is in the hands of a master .
A Song of Starlight and Hope
"星灯" — "Starlight" — is a song about light piercing through darkness, about the courage to believe in a future that seems impossible. It is a fitting theme for Magic Knight Rayearth, a story about three ordinary girls who discover they are destined for something extraordinary. And it is a fitting song for Kawaguchi Yurina, an artist who has navigated the challenges of the entertainment industry and emerged with a voice that shines brighter than ever.
Conclusion:
Kawaguchi Yurina's "星灯" is a beautiful, emotionally rich ending theme that perfectly captures the spirit of the new Magic Knight Rayearth anime. With its expressive vocals, its journey from melancholic piano to liberated chorus, and its stunning music video — including the symbolic haircut that marks the beginning of a new chapter — the song stands as one of the most compelling anisong releases of the Autumn 2026 season.
For longtime fans of Magic Knight Rayearth, this song is a welcome return to a beloved world. For followers of Kawaguchi Yurina's career, it is a milestone that showcases her growth as an artist. And for anyone who has ever needed a reminder that even in the darkest night, there is starlight to guide the way — this one is for you.
